My Philosophy of Music Education

Music education should be available for all students, not only students that have special gifts.  Music education should encompass music of all cultures and geographical locations.  Its importance grows as the student population in U.S. schools and around the world continues to diversify racially and ethnically.  Multicultural music education is an important opportunity for advancing the goals of multicultural education.

In addition to students learning about rhythm, time, notes, ear-training, orchestration, composition, etc., it is equally as important for students to learn about the motivation or history behind music in order to experience music socially, physically, and emotionally.

My emphasis on multicultural music education is motivated by the lack of focus on multiculturalism in music classes I experienced as a music student.  My goal is to provide students with opportunities to be creative by stepping out of their comfort zones and thinking outside the box as they experience music in every culture.
